Back to the Lab 2016 - Hip Hop Theatre Development Course by Breakin' Convention
Back to the Lab 2016 - a short feature film of the acclaimed hip hop theatre development course from Breakin' Convention. Featuring: Carrie-Anne Ingrouille (London) | Daniel Phung (Leeds) | Kofi Mingo (London) | Lanre Malaolu (London) Four of the UK's most exciting hip hop choreographers were hand-picked to take part in Back To The Lab 2016, the fifth in an annual series of successful intensives devised Breakin' Convention to offer intensive training to hip hop choreographers at the peak of their career. Participants received two weeks of intensive training and mentorship from choreographic heavyweights Jonathan Burrows, Jonzi D and Alesandra Seutin. The course culminated with the artists each presenting brand new created in the second week in front of a theatre audience, where they received feedback from the audience on how they could further shape their work in future. Breakin' Convention continues to lead the way in developing and nurturing the genre of hip hop theatre! Reflecting on a taboo, Committed against the traditions, Looking at a transition between her thoughts. Spoken Movement Dance Company present Family Honour (Secrets) A piece transposed from theatre to film in collaboration with The Motion Dance Collective. Supported by Big Lottery Awards for All, Dance Woking has been working with a number of community groups and schools to explore the idea of home. This evening five of the groups will be sharing their experiences using dance movement, art, film and food. The funding has also enabled us to work with professional dance company Amina Khayyam Dance and share their work with a number of the community groups as well as being able to present an excerpt of their work this evening. 'I'm Controlling It' - The Diabetes Project
A self-management film developed through the the Gloucestershire Cultural Commissioning Programme. Participants with Type 1 Diabetes and their families were invited to take part in a week-long dance on film workshop. They would themselves create their own raps, choreography and participate as members of their own crew for filming. This workshop was facilitated and edited by The Motion Dance Collective. Pioneers History Dance Festival Highlights
Pioneers History Dance (PHD) returned to Brixton September 2015 for their third festival taking place across three venues, including Black Cultural Archives, Ritzy Picturehouse and Studio B. This year’s festival offered dancers, artists, academics and enthusiasts a weekend of exposure to exclusive street dance workshops, film screenings, panel discussions, performance and freestyle dance contest and art exhibition. Role: The MDC were hired to provide all Videographic Material and Marketing for the festival alongside a bespoke workshop entitled HIP HOP SCREENDANCE.
