MOTION DANCE COLLECTIVE

A Screendance Production Company

The Motion Dance Collective believe in the importance of creating thought-provoking dance-film content and increasing the presence of a narrative dance practice into the dance, film and digital arts community.

Specialising in the creation, presentation and education of screendance practice, our work is catered to artists & companies with an interest in developing and distributing works that bridge the gap between moving body and moving image.

"What I love about screendance is that it involves a triptych of choreography. The choreography of the camera, the choreography in front of the camera and the choreography developed through the edit."

Omari 'Motion' Carter - Founder of Motion Dance Collective

TESTIMONIALS

"We have been delighted to work with Motion Dance Collective as directors and producers of our new screendance commissions for the Birmingham International Dance Festival 2021. We have valued the amazing knowledge, creativity and experience of the team that led to some of our films being already award-winning. We have truly enjoyed working with Omari as a director and consultant, both the DanceXchange team and the creatives working with us appreciated his positive approach and generosity in sharing his incredible knowledge of the industry. Also, the partnership with MDC helped us to broaden our reach both for artists and audiences."

Lucie Mirkova - Head of Artistic Programmes, FABRIC (formerly DanceXchange)

"It is so exciting to watch the Motion Dance Collective grow and expand on their dynamic and original approach to making bodies and camera communicate with each other to speak directly to their audience.  No one is left out and we are all moved by MDC's personal, universal, inclusive, meaningful, and engaged screendance works."

Marlene Millar - Film Director, Producer, Writer & Editor at Mouvement Perpétuel & Migration Dance Film Project

"Pavilion Dance South West have worked with MDC and Omari Carter in 2021 & 2022 on projects which have pushed our work into amazing new areas. Omari is a joy to work with - collaborative, insightful and inspiring. Projects with MDC have a warmth and real consideration to them - and they're really, really fun to be on!  We're so pleased to be extending our original vibrotactile project which has now attracted funding from The Space."
